Account Activation

Unlike some chains, a fresh TRON address isn't live until something is sent to it — that first transaction activates the account and costs a small amount of TRX or Bandwidth.

This trips people up: a transfer to an address that was never activated can fail even with enough Energy. A first USDT transfer to a brand-new address also needs about twice the usual Energy (~131,000) because the network creates a new storage slot for the token.
