How to Send USDT from OKX Wallet Cheaply
OKX Wallet (the self-custody app, not the exchange) supports TRON. Rent Energy to your address and send USDT (TRC20) without the TRX burn.
OKX Wallet is the self-custody wallet in the OKX app — separate from your exchange account — and it supports TRON and TRC20 tokens. A USDT send from it needs Energy like any TRON wallet; with none, it burns TRX. Rent Energy to your OKX Wallet TRON address to keep the send cheap. (This guide is about the self-custody wallet; an exchange withdrawal is a different, fixed fee you can't rent around.)
Step by step
- 1
Copy your OKX Wallet TRON address
In the OKX Wallet section (not the exchange account), open TRON or USDT-TRC20 and copy the receive address (it starts with a T).
- 2
Rent the Energy for your transfer
On an Energy-rental service like this one, paste that TRON address as the receive address and choose a single transfer (about 65,000 Energy, or ~131,000 if the recipient has never held USDT). Pay the small rental fee — the Energy is delegated to your address in ~10–15 seconds.
- 3
Send your USDT (TRC20)
Open USDT in OKX Wallet, choose Send on the TRON network, paste the recipient, and confirm. The rented Energy covers the transfer instead of TRX.
Wallet vs. exchange account
OKX offers both an exchange account and a self-custody Wallet. You can only rent Energy for the self-custody Wallet, because you control its address on-chain. Withdrawals from the exchange side charge a flat network fee that OKX sets — renting doesn't apply there.
Make sure you're copying the address from OKX Wallet, the self-custody side. Energy delegated to it is spent by your next USDT transfer automatically.
Getting a clean, cheap send
Confirm the TRON (TRC20) network and keep a small TRX buffer for Bandwidth. TRON has no memo, so any optional field can stay empty for a standard wallet-to-wallet USDT send.
For a first transfer to a brand-new address, rent the larger amount (~131,000 Energy) so the whole cost is covered rather than partly falling back to a TRX burn.
FAQ
Can I rent Energy for OKX Wallet?
Yes, for the self-custody OKX Wallet — you control its TRON address. Rent Energy to it and your next USDT send uses it. Exchange withdrawals charge a fixed fee instead.
Is OKX Wallet the same as my OKX exchange account?
No. OKX Wallet is self-custody with an on-chain address you control; the exchange account is custodial. Energy renting applies only to the self-custody Wallet.
What network do I pick for USDT?
TRON (TRC20). The same USDT exists on other chains in OKX Wallet, so selecting the right network matters.
